A vital substance for our bodies. Research has shown that a lack of water reduces our brains efficiency effecting short term memory and long term recall. It can be easy to get glued to our computers at work or easy to get distracted when we're out and about. Failing to remain hydrated will add to you sense of stress as we can become frustrated by our brain not being as sharp as we want it to.

Its OK to feel stressed or overwhelmed - don't ignore it, own it so that you can find means to deal with it. Whether its spending time with loves ones or a trip to GP or seeking support groups. Acknowledging it enables you to to take control and more importantly find ways to deal with it. Your mental health does not define you.

When the weather is this beautiful, it is tempting to overindulge in the cold alcoholic beverages. Not only will you wake with cotton mouth because you are dehydrated but you don't get ANY REM sleep. REM sleep allows your brain to process your thoughts, emotions and events of the the previous day. Alcohol hinders this process. Leading to heightened anxiety and stress because of the lack of REM the following day. Be mindful of using alcohol to forget your stresses and consume responsibly!

The saying goes friends are family that you chose. I couldn't agree more. Socialising with peers that you get 'you', your crap jokes and make you laugh so hard that it makes you snort when you laugh reduce stress because ... 😃 positive interactions promote serotonin and dopamine 🧠 allows your mind to focus on the positive things in life therefore leading to improved problem solving 🎯Talking about your concerns can also provide a different perspective 😃laughing is the best medicine for the soul

Feelings of stress can be exacerbated when we start to dwell on things that are out of our control. It can become a vicious cycle, you feel little or no control leading to increased stress. Step back from a moment and ask yourself- can I really control this situation? or what someone says or does? What you can control is your response. By acknowledged that something is out of your control allows you to regain some rational perspective. By accepting there is a degree of uncertainty in life that you already live with helps to prevent catastrophizing. Helping you to actively reduce some of your stress. I don't mean watch frozen by this image!

Food is fuel - when feeling stressed we either make food the least of our priorities making it 'grab and go' job or we don't eat at all. For many years research has shown that eating a healthy and well balanced diet has significant impact on our wellbeing. Excessive stress leads to the body craving high fat/ sugar foods in preparation of any possible dangers adding inches to our waist line. Now I'm no nutritionist so be mindful what you eat and when you eat as this will inevitably exacerbate levels of stress. In summary, high fat, sugar and salt foods aren't helpful!
