A great metaphor for what I am talking about is 'it is the sea we swim in' as we are generally so immersed in the day to day or future planning that we can forget to be aware of the message we are communicating. Staff go off sick, motivation can be low or misdirected which leads to all the energy not being applied in the most useful direction.
